Young Athletes Program

08/14/2026

The Special Olympics Young Athletes Program is an inclusive play initiative for children ages 2–9, designed to promote physical activity, motor skill development, and social growth for children with and without disabilities.

We are excited to host the EPDSC Young Athletes Summer Program — a fun, inclusive 8-week summer program led by EPDSC Self-Advocates Sarah and Samantha. Using training resources developed by Special Olympics Young Athletes, children will learn and practice fundamental movement and sports skills such as running, kicking, throwing, balancing, and coordination through engaging games and activities.

This program helps children:
• Build motor and coordination skills
• Develop confidence and social connections
• Practice sharing, taking turns, and following directions
• Stay active while learning healthy habits
• Experience inclusive play in a supportive and supportive environment

Research on the Young Athletes curriculum has shown that children who participate in a consistent 8-week program can demonstrate up to seven months of growth in motor skills, along with gains in social, emotional, and learning development. Families also report increased confidence and excitement about future opportunities.

Snacks and water will be provided each session, along with time for free play.
